how can I tel if my fuel pump is bad

turn the key to on, without starting the engine, you should be able to hear it hum from the gas tank. or start the engine, and look for the fuel pressure test port, its a shrater valve its gonna be on one of the rails, or on the cross over pipe. push that down and you should get a pretty healthy dose of gasoline. thats all if its working. If its not working your engine wont start.

@Dan, your advice was 100% correct. My 2001 Ram 1500 5.2v8 wouldn't start, I used your test, bought a new $188 fuel pump assembly (from O'Reilly's) and four hours later - "It's Aliiiiive!" Thank you so much!!!

GuruZS2GQ, The 09-12 hemi's don't have a Schrader. You'll have to get a 9.49 fuel pressure test kit and a 3/8" fuel rail disconnect tool

does all schrater valves come out on the fuel rail on a 1996 dodge ram 1500 we could not get it out and broke it off
