Fuel pump

Asked by Nicole Jun 05, 2016 at 01:00 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet Malibu LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I reciently had my fuel pump changed. now it seems like the gas guage is messing up. I have put a full tank of gas and within two days it goes to empty and the light comes on. I parked the car cause it happened right as I got home. suddenly the gauge went back up. what can be causing this to happen. I had the fuel pump rechecked on the connection and hoses. no problems. I don't want to be driving and not knowing exactly how much gas is in my car.

The fuel level sender located in the fuel tank is either part of the fuel pump or attached to it. The person that replaced the fuel pump did something to mess up the fuel level sensor. I would take the vehicle back to the person that replaced the fuel pump and tell them to fix it properly.
