1994 s-10 blazer stalls out

Asked by Stephanie Oct 30, 2020 at 09:52 AM about the 1994 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer 4 Dr Tahoe 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1994 s-10 blazer has been stalling out. It only happens
when it's not under a load. I have recently replaced the fuel
pump, distributor cap and rotor, MAP sensor, and taken the
battery from a side post to a top post. If I keep the Tom's
higher than an idle at a stop it wont stall. But when I'm
driving and I'm going downhill, or coasting, that's when it
will stall. I have to cycle the ignition about 5 or 6 times, then
it fires right up. Sometimes it acts like it is not getting any
fuel. And other times it seems like its running richer than
normal. I am replacing my plugs and wires next week. If
anyone has some suggestions for me it would be greatly
appreciated. Also, the engine has the w code not the z
code. Not sure if that helps?

Sounds like a bad IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. Hope that helps! Jim

I am having similar issues. Turns out it was my throttle position sensor or what I thought. I wasn’t getting any check engine light for about a week but after I put in a new one I got a code for it. I cannot find a break in the wires which leads me to believe it’s my ECU going bad. (My s-10 Tahoe is a 88). IAC is a cheaper fix try that and if no help try replacing the computer.
