why does my 2002 chevy s10 voltage meter is low when i start it then it goes too 12volt?

Your alternator is not working. 12 volts is the battery voltage that actually should be 12.5 V. The alternator charges at 14.5 volts.

The volt gauge isn't accurate in any way. As long as the battery light isn't on your ok. You can have someone check it with a voltmeter to be sure.
