have it towed and get a pro to fix it- doesn't your insurance pay for it?

Don't really Wana tow it or deal with insurance. Rather fix it myself.

Go to you local speed shop and get a repair manual that shows the steering mechanism. Have you tried to move the steering wheel back and forth while turning the key? You pay for insurance, if it was damaged during an actual crime attempt, there should not be any points against your insurance. You will have to get a new ignition lock and if your keys are programed to a anti-thieft device or to the computer, it will have to be re-programed. If you are that good at fixing things, more power to you. A pro doing it will get it right the first time. Try it yourself if you want, in the mean time, talk to your agent on the claim. Don't forget to make a police report also.

It sounds like they used a screw driver to jam into the lock to break the keys and turn it on to start, There is something in the locking mechanism that is broken. I know you replaced a lot of parts but is the ignition lock itself new? What does it attach to to hold it in place? There is something that is broken, a small tab or tip that slides into a slot to hold it? Does it run into a ridge to align the lock and that is broken? Can only guess without seeing it.
