10w40 is a really thick oil, I've personally never seen a v6 that takes that thick of an oil. Usually the top of your oil cap will tell you what weight oil the engine takes and if it doesn't than you can look it up on line or a car parts store will tell you. But if it's a consistent knock from your bottom end than it could be a rod knock
