Chevy Blazer Mechanical Whine

Asked by TheManskiTheLegend Dec 17, 2017 at 10:41 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet Blazer LS 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I tried backing my Blazer out of my driveway in 4
WD Auto, but the engine just revved and emitted a
high-pitched mechanical whine when I tried
reversing. Didn’t move, just revved and whined. It
seems to go forward fine without the whine, but I
only inched it forward, I didn’t drive it a long way to
test that. I tried putting in in 2 HI, tried in 4 HI, but
only whined. Any ideas what went wrong and/or
how to fix it?

Perhaps the shift linkage is out of adjustment or the transmission is shot. Also check the ATF level.

Does the transmission have the appropriate amount of fluid in it?
