Rosie, you probably have an independent mechanic, have them check your tensioner and timing chain for wear or rattling. There's no belt to break, but, the timing chain could cause problems. And, you might want to check out the major systems, fluids, transmission, water pump, radiator and heater hoses. There's no reason why you can't go another 50,000 to 75,000 miles, but, it's a preventative maintenance issue right now. Plugs normally need changing around now, as they usually last 100,000 miles. Once you do that, you're going to save money by not breaking down in inconvenient places and have your car towed. Good luck.

Your owners manual will have a service schedule in it which will tell you what needs maintenance. It might be a separate book but it should be in your glove box.

Agreed, but, have everything throughly checked. The maintenance schedule is just a guide, good start though.

the major service usually happens at 90,000 miles- so you're already past due- this is where everything gets changed, flushed serviced, inspected, replaced, and tightened- EVERYTHING- and yes, it is expensive, because you will need a competent mechanic to do it- and the good ones ain't cheap-

jamnblues, while that's true for a lot of cars, Subaru recommends changing out the timing belt, water pump and super coolant at 105,000 miles, HOWEVER, people need to realize that TIME, is another major factor and depending upon your particular situation, sometimes these services have to be performed at s lower mileage, say 80,000 or 85,000 miles. Vigilant maintenance is the key. And, you're right , it costs a certain amount to maintain a car professionally. A good independent mechanic is invaluable.
