Why does 2002 Chevy Trailblazer want to die when turning on AC?

There may be a solenoid that kicks up the idle and it's not working . Maybe .

Sounds like the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve is not working properly. When you switch on the air conditioning an A/C request signal is sent to the computer. The computer then increases the idle slightly to compensate for the added load of the air conditioning compressor by slightly opening up the IAC. Hope that helps! Jim
