1996 F250 5.8L change to 4.9L?

Asked by Charles Dec 08, 2018 at 01:42 AM about the 1996 Ford F-250 2 Dr XL Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am wanting to replace a 5.8L in a 1996 F250 and would like to use a 4.9L
to replace it with.  Does anyone know whether it will require a computer
change only or worse.  I believe it has a C6 tranny now.
If there is more of a straightforward engine, what would it be?

Thanks, Charlie

You cannot run a 6 cylinder engine on a V8 ECU. The straight forward solution is to use another 5.8.
