I had the same issue and replaced the 4 wheel drive actuator. Works like a champ now. They are vacuum operated and the grease was really gunky and dried up inside when I removed them. There is a great YouTube video that I watched and made the process simple. I replaced the front bearing assemblies while i already had it apart.
