2005 F-150 XLT 5.4: Hesitation when hard accelerating.

Asked by George Sep 14, 2016 at 02:50 PM about the 2005 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I accelerate hard, for example getting on the highway and giving it gas hard, it hesitates to go then it will go and hesitate again. It does this about 3-4 times and then goes without an issue. A buddy of mine suggested it may be clogged injectors. I tried a fuel system cleaner and high grade gas for a tank, but no diffenerce. Any suggestions?

That's an early sign of a plugged catalytic converter

My 2005 f150 was doing the same and the light also came on. While it was almost empty I put a can of injector cleaner and a can of octane boost and five gallons of premium gas and drove home on freeway 40 miles. I ordered new plugs and wires.Twice today I got down hard on it entering freeway but it refused to hesitate and opened wide like a champ.I have the new plugs and coils but now I'm confused!

Also could b a sign that your transmission is failing that would be your worse case senerio but if it is an issue with your transmission fix it now don't just ride it out cuz the longer u wait, the more damage u r looking at and the more expensive it will be.
