Burning smell, No rear light no flashes

Asked by DocGabor Jan 05, 2015 at 05:51 AM about the 2003 Ford F-150 XLT Extended Cab 4WD LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We pulled yesterday all day a horse trailer with our F 150 2003. The radio was very warm
all the time. At the end of the day bad "burning plastic" smell appeared, and all the rear
lights on the truck and all flash (head and rear) were gone. No light on the trailer at all. All
the fuses were still good. Later 4x4 light appeared on the dash board, too. Any idea?

Sounds like someone needs to crawl under the truck starting from the rear to see if any part of the wiring to the rear lights came in contact with the exhaust system and melted away. Possible since the tongue weight of the horse trailer probably pushed the back of the truck down a bit
