Truck will not start

Asked by Jdskasres Aug 07, 2016 at 03:01 PM about the 2002 Ford F-150 XLT Crew Cab 4WD SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Ford F-150 is not starting. It sat for a few
months without moving so the battery was dead. I
went to jump it and puff of smoke happened around
the passenger side of the inside of the vehicle.
Checked all the fuses, they seem fine. Replaced the
starter and the solenoid as well as the ignition
switch, still nothing. When you put the key in, the
lights and radio work fine, but the gauges don't
move. After leaving the key on for a bit the gauges
move up but as soon as you try start it, they go
back down. No clicking or anything happens when
you try to start the vehicle, just silence. What could
be the problem??

Check the starter circuit conections begin at the battery, loose corroded, terminals, ground cables.. smoked Fuse-able link, etc... WAIT you changed Ignition switch? or the the lock and cylinder with the RFID KEY if so.. that's a problem (after you get it cranking) hold the original key inverted on top of the new key what happens? Two issues, wiring issue and no immobilizer up link to the vehicles computer.

If the engine will not spin when the key is turned to start try this. Remove the fan belt. Remove the spark plugs. Place the appropriate size socket on the crank shaft pulley and try to rotate the engine manually. Rust could have build up inside the engine. Resulting in the starter not being able to spin the engine.
