could a 01ford f150 engine fit a 05

It would "fit "but you will never pass smog inspection because those are two different engines. The 01 has 2 valves per cylinder and the 05 has three. You would also have engine and or transmission control problems.

Definetely won't work. Computer will be looking for features that come with the 05 that the 01 doesn't have, like the VVT (Variable Valve Timing). The check engine light will always be on and won't pass smog
