Starting problem
Asked by Bill2650 Oct 06, 2016 at 11:47 PM about the 2000 Ford F-150 XL Extended Cab SB
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
2000 Ford F-150 5.4 l triton occasionally
does not start. Motor cranks. But doesn't
fire up. I physically rock the cab back and
forth around 15 times by standing outside
of the drivers seat. Then the truck starts.
What's wrong?

Maybe get your fuel pressure tested. Sloshing the fuel around in the tank might be clearing debris away from the pickup... long shot, but who knows.
Just carry your F-150 Pickup to a Mechanic or try and do Quick Jumpstart
Forgot to mention that I have changed the fuel filter. It was pretty well clogged up. Also, I have added a fuel cleaner to the gas tank that helped a little bit. Then the problem started again. However once the truck starts, it runs good, on city streets or on the highway. It gives trouble after it sits awhile-a long or short period of time.
I think you might want to drop the tank, clean it out, and replace the fuel pump. You'd be surprised at the amount of crap in older tanks, especially in vehicles that spend a lot of time outside. There could be an inch of rusty bits of junk on the bottom of that tank.
