Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Ford f150 lariat I've had now
for 21/2 years haven't had any problems
how ever when I first got it I received two
keys for that truck the main key and the
spare key and when I first used my spare
key my truck will not start or will start and in
mid drive turn off on me it almost would
sound like the battery was dying I replaced
battery had the truck looked at and there
were no problems found besides a bad relay
switch which was also replaced since then I
have only been using my main key and
haven't had a problem with the truck I
recently loose my main key retrieved my
spare key to get home and immediately the
truck did not want to start after four
attempts she cranked up and i got home but
I'm having this problem every day now what
can it be?

It's possible you need key coded keys to start engine. If key is not coded security system will not allow engine to start. You need one original key that works to get others made.

What I suspect is the previous owner lost a key and had a regular key cut without knowing a programmable key is required to start the truck. Since you lost the main key, you have to have the vehicle taken to a dealership, or find a locksmith, who can cut a couple of keys, program them, then possess the proper electronic equipment to reprogram the computer within the vehicle.
