1999 f150 v6 4.2, truck fuel pump works at
times,I'm having a hard time knowing if it's the
pump or something else

Check the pressure at rail, it may be borderline or filter may be getting clogged or suction filter inside the tank might be dirty if everything us ckeaned and pressure is abive 30psi you may have an intermitent electrical problem or bad pump
