Does the anti-theif key operate on a battery

When you turn the key to start the car nothing happens, the lights and radio work all dash board lights come on and I even tried to jump the car but still nothing happens.  The Theif System warning light comes on.

everything is connected to your battery and the anti theft device is too chances are it runs on some sort of external power so car jackers dont unplug the battery and disable the alarm and get in
