Ignition got punched will crank but not start

Asked by Jen31545 Sep 25, 2018 at 05:00 AM about the 1999 Ford F-150 XL Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm going threw a nasty divorce an in
the beginning my soon to be ex
decided if he couldnt have the truck he
was going to make sure I couldn't use
it with that being said he punched the
ignition with a screwdriver one night
trying to steal it an bc of the chip in the
key the security disabled it from
starting it will turn over all day long but
never start.. My problem is this ive had
plenty of opinions but no definite
answer an was really wanting more of
a definite answer before spending
money I dont have trying to get this
truck back running so I can have a way
to work an back so my problem is this
do I replace the ignition or is it easier to
replace the whole column bc I'm being
told it may be easier to replace the
column itself bc of the damage thats
been done..next thing is if I do need to
replace the column wheres the best
place I know I can go to a junk yard but
ones around here suck an dont have
what I need an well without a way of
going travelling anywhere is almost
impossible so online is about my only
option..if u have any idea pls lmk its
been sitting up for 2 months now bc
idk what I need to do to fix it an cant
get anyone to just look at it an tell me
without having to sale my soul to the
devil to pay for it any advice is
welcome but please dont give me any
of thoughts I have plenty of those i
need someone experienced in this area
thanks

The key cylinder can be replaced, I replaced one on my 1999. The replacement cylinder has to be one which come with two new keys with chips. A mobile locksmith usually has the electronic device required to reprogram the vehicle. Give one a call and ask.
