1997 ford f150 is it bad to put 75w-140 and 75w-90 in a rear axle

12 Bolt rear axle my buddy failed to make sure to get the right oil and I assumed he knew what to look for and I was
wrong he handed me the bottles and after I was done he goes why do we have 75w-90

It's best to drain it out and replace it with the correct weight oil. It should be OK for short trips but I wouldn't go on long trips or tow. 75W-90 won't give you the high temperature protection that the manufacturer calls for.
