I have two cars. 1, 03 beetle,and 1 chevy avalanche 02. Can you tell me how to turn off those pesky check engine lights?

I bought the chevy with the check engine light on. The bug, the light came on at about 60,000

To turn off the CEL - take the car to the parts store. Get the codes read. Write down the code number. Post the number here. Someone will tell you what's wrong. Fix the problem. The light goes out.
