Not able to start when I try starting

The car had been parked for a year before I
bought it. Drove it to the mechanic for
servicing.  The is this lock at the left top when
the ignition is on. When that sign co es the car
doesn't start

A car that sits that long will have unseen problems , the gas tank should have been cleaned out and mice probably set up house keeping chewing on wires and such .

That light is indicating a fault with the theft deterrent system. Your mechanic can help figure it out.
