can you help me solve a coolant issue

Asked by chingyy95 Nov 22, 2016 at 01:05 AM about the 1995 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer Stepside SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

when the truck reaches operating temperature, or even just driving after thirty minutes. the truck doesn't overheat, but when I stop and turn it off, coolant starts bubbling inside the reservoir, and shooting back out. there was sludge inside the reservoir and through the hoses, I flushed all the coolant and sludge out, cleaned all the hoses. multiple times. I cannot figure out where or what the problem is that makes the coolant shoot back out of the reservoir

If the coolant has never been changed in 20 years, that was part of the problem. Second, when the radiator begins burping and throwing coolant, it's a sign the thermostat is not working properly. You probably have crud all caked up around the thermostat. Change it and see, they are not expensive.
