Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We bought the stuff and drove it many miles to get it through, still did not
pass. It said it would guarantee it to pass.  First time it has not passed.

Could be something as simple as a Gas Cap needing replacement. Ask the emission place to tell you what failed on the test.

Maybe it needs a tune up or a new catalytic converter. Why exactly did it fail? Visual? Hydrocarbons?

A vehicle tat is producing High NOx counts. Is usually too lean. This could be caused by an exhaust leak before the catalytic converter. A faulty o2 sensor or sensors. A failed egr valve. incorrect ignition timing. The 1994 Ford inline engines had a pollution reduction system installed. A valve in that system could be stuck open admitting unneeded oxygen into the exhaust system.

Move out of California to a state or city that has no smog tests. Jerry Brown will hate you !
