where is the starter located on the engine?

I NEED TO HIT MY STARTER WITH A HAMMER, BUT CAN'T FIND THE STARTER, WHERE IS IT?

Hitting the starter only helps sometimes if the bendix is stuck. This is a sign of starter failure. Look for the transmission where it connects to the motor. This is called the bell housing. you will see a single round starter going into the face of the bell housing
