1993 f150 5.8L 4x4 engine and transmission problems

Asked by nathanclgg Oct 13, 2016 at 03:40 AM about the 1993 Ford F-150 XL 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Suddenly Felt a change in the way the throttle petal
felt under my foot. Since then transmission doesn't
start in 1st and only uses 2nd and 3rd, won't go
into OD. Only shifts if I manually use the shifter to
do so. And engine feels as if it is missing when
giving it half throttle or more but is fine before
then? Also when this happened the truck instantly
got louder, crawled underneath it and noticed the
exhaust broke right around the O2 sensor and
check engine light is on.
More info: tranny fluid is fine level and consistency,
engine oil is perfect. I got gas prior to all this but
drove about 50 miles before anything happened.
Also, prior to this happening, when cold in the
morning it felt as if the truck was starting out in
2nd and transmission shifted quite early (IMO, but
idk, before this truck I've never owned anything but
Chevy) and had to give excessive amount of
throttle to kick down a gear. Any help or ideas or
input would be much appreciated. This is my only
vehicle for the time being and I need this problem
fixed ASAP. Thanks in advance for any help

I couldn't be more confused but that's totally fine with me, I turned the truck off for about an hour, went back out to tinker with it and started it, check engine light came on but literally no other problems were still there? Haha not sure how that works but I can't complain. Even the exhaust where it had cracked by the o2 sensor wasn't leaking? And the exhaust was coming out of my tip again through my muffler which I don't understand because when all this happened at once it sounded like my truck was straight piped or as if I was running open headers. Like I said I'm confused but happy lol any input on why it did what it did would still be helpful and appreciated so I can hopefully avoid it ever happening again.

I don't understand most of what you posted. It sounds like you're driving a truck in need of extensive major repair. I recommend that you fix it instead of driving it into the ground.

I appreciate your input but everything I explained actually happened and wasn't anything in need of extensive repair. It was an o2 sensor and it caused the truck to go into a limp mode
