Well, A43 is a Toyota 3 speed automatic and this is an L43 every transmission I could find with a "43" in the designation is Toyota

When you say on top of the transmission, where about. And are you sure that is all it says, and is it bunched into the casing? I can't think of any tranny that has a 43 on it and that just being it and nothing else. If it said like 435 that would say something. What did it come out of. Really need more info.

Bye the way on a transmission there are usually tags and are usually on the top of the bell housing. However, not all transmission had them, not all tags are still there, and not all tags are still readable. There is also usually a number stamped on the case pan rail about 8 characters long that includes ONE of the ID codes. It may be enough to ID the transmission.
