Most likely, the Throttle Body and IAC Solenoid (Idle Air Control) are dirty. You can remove both, clean them with carb spray and a cloth (no brushes). To properly reset the idle: Write down all of your radio stations, disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, run the engine at 2500 RPM for about 2 minutes and allow the engine to Idle for 2 minutes, then Idle in Drive for 2 minutes and then Idle in drive with the AC if equipped) and the Headlights on for 2 minutes. Shut it down for a minute and take it for a short drive. Idle quality should be much better.

Driving my Ford 2001 F150 , 138000 miles, runs good but stops sometimes like it's not getting any gas. Wait 10 minutes and it will start up again. What is the problem?.

I had a problem with my F150 where it would just stall out of the wild blue and not start. After a while it might start and might not. towed it home and it started fine. Took my mechanic many hours to find out the problem was the fuel pump. With Gas prices the way the are, I would let it run very low before refueling, BAD IDEA. The fuel pump is cooled by the gas and running it that low causes the pump to get hot and will damage it. If you have this problem, when it stalls, use a stick or rubber hammer and bang the gas tank. if the pump is stuck this will free it up the truck would start. Moral of this story, do not let your truck run below a quarter tank or you will be in the same boat I did.. cost me 2 fuel pumps over 2 years to realize I was over heating and damaging the pump

This was happening to me... my mechanic said it was the camshaft position sensor. There are four of these. Two were out on my truck, but they replaced all four because it is the same labor cost. And the part isnt really expensive. Runs fine now.
