1990 Ford F150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What is the average cost to get an oil pump
replaced at a mechanic shop that gives you a good
deal? My 1990 Ford F150 makes a clicking noise
almost like a marbles in a can noise when you
accelerate. It has a brand new transmission in it so
its not that. Its sounds like the lifters are starving
for oil. So I feel like it sounds like it needs an oil
pump.

Odds are replacing the oil pump will not fix your other engine problems.

Well I asked a mechanic already about it and they said it sounds like the oil pump because it makes that noise at acceleration. But he couldnt give me a for sure answer unless he took a look at it.

Hopefully they at least checked oil pump performance with a few tests before deciding you needed a new one.
