my 1990 ford f150 has 2 gas tanks but when I push the switch it wont change tanks

my 1990 ford f150  has 2 gas tanks  with a switch inside on the dash.  I fill both tanks  but my switch  doesn't change the tank  it comes  out of the back tank only  even when  I push the switch to change tanks  inside.

3rd question today I am answering on the fuel tanks issue, but here goes. Some of the work I am able to do myself, but I finally gave up on the fuel tank problem and wound up taking both my 1987 and 1994 to my Ford dealer, both were fixed and I have never had a problem since. I might add that it seems to help maintenance wise if you periodically put in a fuel treatment additive.
