Fixing leaks in a Diesel are not any different from fixing leaks in a gasoline engine. Only the head gaskets require a little more effort/torque. You have to get the right parts. Buy a good repair manual; about $40. and follow the guide.

Thank you! I bought this truck to haul a trailer because I plan to move soon and need to pull a trailer about 2000 miles. Once I'm moved, I will have time on my hands to work on those leaks. It's good to know I can actually do it myself, cause I've never been a great mechanic, but if I take my time, I should be able to work on those leaks, but might need to come back to this group for advice from time to time. In the meantime, I'm just going to have to ask the mechanic to fix things well enough to make the trip. I've actually had the truck at the shop for 10 days now and the shop isn't doing a good job of communicating with me about it, and I'm feeling pretty anxious about it. Hoping the mechanic calls me this morning, or I'll try him this afternoon. Thanks again!

An uncommunicative mechanic, like an uncommunicative doctor, is never a good thing. But then, your truck is a "94 that predates OBD: this eliminates a computer reader and that stumps virtually all mechanics today. You actually might not be able to find another mechanic willing to work on your truck. If you're this concerned, I'm guessing you found a real gem of a truck. why don't you read up on it. Get a good shop manual and maybe a mechanical history for the truck. If it's as nice as I think, I'd be parking it in my livingroom.

Hey , thank you! I have taken your advice and I'm learning how to repair things on this truck myself. I found a diesel supplement, and other manuals, for this truck, and you're 100% correct, they are super helpful! For instance, I thought the glow plug system was over my head, but with the way it's laid out in the manual, it should actually be doable, as long as I get the old plugs out without any issues. The manual provides great easy to follow instructions for testing, repairing, and/or replacing the plugs, the harness, and the controller. It seems like anything that could go wrong is covered in the diesel supplement for the old 7.3 L IDI's.
