CD ERROR.

Asked by Petamus1 Apr 28, 2009 at 09:32 AM about the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Crew Cab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

CD Player won't work. CD's are stuck in player. Yhey won't play or eject. Any attempt to use any function of CD player results in CD ERROR displayed.
Can I fix this myself or do I need a whole new unit(which I can't afford)?

If Petamus1 has the same unit I do, the answer is YES. My indash unit is exhibiting the same issues. Any idea how to self-repair? Thanks in advance

papa - thx for reply; it's the solution that worked for me. To answer your question - it's a factory unit. I pulled both fuses for the unit to reset it (the fuses were both good). Worked like a charm. Other posts on web have talked about pulling the unit out to unhook the wiring harness or unhooking battery post to accomplish the same thing - but fuse pulling is a heckuva lot easier. Did not have to wait 10 minutes and didn't even lose my radio presets. Got my 5 cds out after 3 months of being stuck.

I'm having the same problem that you had back in February. You mentioned that you removed "both fuses". I could only find one radio fuse and I removed it for about 30 minutes but this did not fix the problem. Where is a second fuse. Thanks. wepropst@sc.rr.com

I had the same problem removed the two fuses I think #28,29 for over 30 minutes; check to be sure they had not blown which they had not; reinserted them ; turned key on and out came my CD!

They are just inside drivers door on the side of the dash under a cover. And my book says #27 & #29.

Will I have to reprogram radio if I disconnect the battery?

I have the same issue with my 04 xlt, the battery ran down, needed a 5 min charge with jumper cables. I unhooked the battery for 30 min, had to reprogram. Also removed both fuses for 30 min as well. The issue is not fixed. When I press eject it says "initializing".

Be sure you are pulling the fuse "under" the number 27 and the fuse "over" 29 wait then put them back in. Try ejecting without turning on the key. That worked without giving me the CD Error. After I ejected 5 disc's I turned on the key and the error message stayed off and disc 6 played. Now it seemed fine. If it doesn't work try new fuses.

2003 mercury mountaineer Already ejected 6th disc and from then on it read CD error. I pulled the 2 fuses, waited, put them back in and it read no disc, then pushed load, then it said full, pushed ejected, then read CD error again. Re pulled fuses again just to get same thing. Before replacing the radio I am wondering if there is a fix?
