shift knob

i as asking the same thing i've heard they just pop off but i haven't really tried on mine, if you find anything out let me know

I found out that they are actually glued on, and the only way to get them off is to take the entire assembly apart, and dunk it in boiling water to get the adhesive to let go. THEN you'd have to thread the shaft, and find a knob that will work with the reverse lock out (pulling up on the handle to go in reverse.) Means I'm too lazy to try..

My wife purchased a new shifter knob. I tried to get it off for a month,nothing would work. It is attached so well I was damaging the shifter. I couldn't get it off. I tried everything. I gave up. Hope you have better luck!

the knob is glued on. To remove it the easiet way to get it off is by taking the shifter out of the car, its held in by a pin or something if I recall. And putting the knob end in some warm/ boiling water for a couple minutes and it should slide right off.

It is not glued on. Unscrew the metal ring at base of knob. Hold shaft and pull STRAIGHT up. It is a slide in knob held in place by bottom metal ring. Good luck.....easy . I just did it.

I can't see a metal ring at the bottom? I've tried screwing it and nothing budges

I also did not see the ring ... trying to turn the knob just spinning it can't escape. haven't found a way to change the knob

As Domenic says above, "Unscrew the metal ring at base of knob. Hold shaft and pull STRAIGHT up. It is a slide in knob held in place by bottom metal ring". The "ring" is shiny, 1/2 inch wide, at the base of the knob (not at the bottom of the shaft). you can't miss it, turn it counterclockwise and the pull the knob straight up. It may need a little "convincing" to come out.
