2004 Avalanche transmission

2016 December put a brand new transmission in
my car now it won't shift past first gear and I
checked the transmission fluid and it was low what
do you think do you think I need a new
transmission or the solenoids going bad

Yes, who put the transmission in the car? If it was a shop, check what sort of warranty they gave you, it is usually one year, but I would check with them. Add fluid to the normal level first to see if this corrects the problem. Have you noticed the transmission leaking during all this time?

no, was there this morning they checked it out, on way home suddenly it did not want to shift .
