why does my 1996 toyota tercel runs hot ?

antifreeze runs out after i drive it and park out. it runs hot.

pop the hood and see if the coolant fans are running when it's hot , a little 4 cylinder shouldn't get hot after a short drive unless the thermostat isn't opening , , what does the exhaust look like ? remove the oil fill cap and look on the bottom what do you see ?
