a friend has a 2004 tacoma and the truck will not start due to the check engine light not coming on.

They say the check engine light needs to come on. The key needs a reset. How do you rest the key?

i can only assume that the key is coded and the code is not being accepted by the ignition anymore... it will have to be recoded by the dealership... If you have another key try that... if it works then its just the key that needs to be replaced... however if it is not a coded key then you have other issues which i cannot speculate at without more info... gl...
