Toyota starting problems

Asked by Nativity Sep 15, 2017 at 08:41 AM about the 1998 Toyota Tacoma 2 Dr SR5 V6 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma that will only start
when the check engine light is on. When check
engine light isn't on it will crank but won't start.
Have checked all the wiring and can't find the
problem. What else could it be?

What is the code? Sounds like the issue is so bad that when the light is on, the system bypasses the issue and allows it to start. You also have more gas ⛽️ being sent through system when light is on. Vacuum leak and it needs more gas? I had a civic that did this and it was the O2 sensor.
