What are the symptoms of a bad or faulty crank sensor on a 1998 toyota t-100 sr-5

this question was posted by me, but here is more info. I have tested the sensor with a ohm meter as per Chilton's manual. I cannot get a steady reading. the ohm reading starts at 900-1000 and climes to around 2000 before shutting off on my meter. It takes about 60 to 90 seconds to climb this far.
