What made the truck accelerate and not resond

Asked by GuruP9LBZ Jan 13, 2020 at 08:26 AM about the 1995 Toyota T100 2 Dr SR5 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

All of a sudden today, when my fiance
stepped on the gas while pulling away, the
engine too of on it's own, wide open to the
extreme the brakes didn't phase it, shifting
into lower then lowest gear didn't show it at
all, then reverse didn't effect it. It stayed we
open and uncontrollable. Twice it did it
tonight. What happened?? And why does
only shutting off key work and nothing else
to slow it down.

Do you have any loose floor covers/mats on top of the original carpet IN the drivers foot well (where your feet go to work the pedals)? If yes, remove any IMMEDIATELY except the original floor covering, See: https://www.toyota.com/recall Do not use ANY other covers unless and until you read the Toyota requirements for floor mats. There have been several deaths caused by loose floor mats sliding under the gas peddle and causing it to jam full on. This is most important for you and your loved ones, to be safe.
