How long to replace a whole power sliding door?

Asked by TurnerShockley Jan 13, 2020 at 02:31 PM about the 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a customer with a malfunctioning power sliding door on the passenger
side. I found a matching door at a local scrap yard. It seems it would be much
more cost effective to just replace the whole door instead of the power cable
because book time calls for over 6 hours labor but there is no suggested time
for replacing the entire door nor can I find anything online.

Replacement involves the mechanical part of getting the old door out of the track an the new one in, but then you have the electrical side to find all the cabling connectors--I cannot imagine how difficult that will be. I would recommend troubleshooting the problem and targeting what actually is wrong with the door verses just replacing it. I don’t believe replacing the entire door will be less work than fixing the problem. I have written very detailed instructions on replacing the power sliding door cables on that van, which is a frequent problem. You can do that repair in 3 or less hours: http://shareyourrepair.com/2014/01/how-to-replace-the-power-sliding-door-cables-2004- 2010-toyota-sienna-xle.html
