I got a 2011 Chevy impala LTZ. It wouldn't go into reverse or drive and it was making a shinning noise. I cut the car off for a few minutes and it goes into reverse and drive again and drives just fine for a short distance. Today I changed the transmission filter and fluid and the car drives just fine. Seems like the problem was a clogged transmission filter. It's easy to change the filter and fluid.

If reverse works you may have low fluid level or a leak. Either would cause a lack of oil pressure which is needed to change/lock gears. If it manually shifts but wont move in "D" you may have a btokrn "foreward drive band". It could also be electrical or perhaps the shifter isn't putting the car into gear. I have this issue. Im quite sure its a foreward drive band. I accidentally went into "drive" from park while the rpms were still up. This may have caused thr band to close on a moving planetsry drum and snap. Its also possible (impalas and other cars with a 4t65e transmission have this issue) the pin that closes the band is broken. They were manufactured to short which means it must move to far to close thr band. This is what i know, any other info or suggestions are appreciated.

my friends 2006 Chevy impala transmission would go in reverse but not in drive. She told me that she just started driving it in second gear.for probably 50 miles. Just went on her merry way. Next day it She started the car, tried to put in drive but still didnt work so went back to 2nd gear and got 3 blocks and engine died. it started but none of the drive gears worked so drove back home in reverse. I have noticed and warned her that she backs into her driveway and often sticks it in reverse before car comes to stop. In case that helps anyone. I did not know until after all these facts as she remembers. She did say her brother put in a quart of trans fluid to see if it would go into any forward gears. no luck. I checked the trans oil with dipstick and it was still pinkish but darker, with no real burn smell that I could tell. I had read on line that a fluid supply line is known to crack and cause only reverse to work on this car. So I dropped the transmission oil pan and found what is on this pic at the bottom of oil pan. this has to be important? Can anybody help?. Thanks,

I have a 2011 Chevy Impala I cannot go in reverse or drive and it's making a noise when I put it in gear what could that be

It sounds like the same problem I had So the noise you are hearing sounds like a power steering pump going bad rite? Well if so your trans filter sounds clogged.that being said your solenoids probably need to be replaced. So drop the pan and see what it looks like if you see a lot of metal that's your problem

My 2011 Chevy won’t go into drive and the RPM’s are going nuts!! Anyone might know what this means?

If you have a Chevy impala and it goes in reverse but won’t go forward when in D gear I have a temporary solution if your stuck somewhere or need to drive the car to the shop. So here’s the good news! If you pop the hood open and look right above the vehicle battery there’s a plastic box with a cover on it and under that cover are your fuses. Look for the transmission fuse it’s a 10A red small fuse right underneath a big fuse that’s grey and square….if you take that little red transmission fuse out and start the car and try to put your car in D gear you will be able to drive forward again!! This is a temporary fix and needs to be looked at by someone who knows how to rebuild trannys but this quick fix will atleast get you going again. I have a 2007 Chevy impala and this worked out perfect for me ‍♂️ Hope this answer will help somebody!
