Does cleaning your headlights crack them?

Asked by Brent May 17, 2019 at 05:08 PM about the 2001 Toyota Sequoia Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I cleaned my girlfriend's car headlights with Armor All
headlight restoration wipes. They looked fine and the
blinker cases looked fine. We dropped it off at a dealer the
next day to get a routine checkup and the blinker casings
came back and were cracked. Now the dealer is saying they
didn't do it and I know we didn't hit anything. So the dealer
claims that since there was condensation in the blinker
case that me cleaning them must've brought the cracks to
the surface. Does this happen? Or are they just covering
themselves?

The old lenses are probably cracked due to age. The cleaning may have allowed you to see the cracks.
