Asked by Matthew Sep 02, 2020 at 04:26 PM about the 2002 Toyota RAV4 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My battery went dead and I replaced it
but the battery light is still on. Does it
reset itself or do I have another
problem?

A battery light means you have a charging problem, not that the battery is dead or needs replacing. Have the alternator tested. An auto part store can do that for you if you won't have a multimeter. With the engine on, probe the battery, it should read around 14V that tells you the alternator is properly working.

The alternator voltage test is just a basic test. It does not test output or a/c ripple voltage. Get it tested.
