HELP! 01 Rav4 wont start after Alternator replacement!

Asked by Ftm2Rilynntempie Sep 06, 2016 at 11:11 PM about the 2001 Toyota RAV4 Base 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello! So lets start from the beginning..
Every morning we would come out and go
to start the car but nothing, no crank,
nothing. So we would have to put the blow
dryer onto the starter for about 10-15 min
and it would start right up! It got to the
point where we would have to bang on the
starter also with the help of the blow dryer.
So eventually we got a new starter,
replaced it. Next morning, still no start,
same thing. Blow dryer for about 10
minutes, started right up.
So next we went to autozone and they said
our alertnator was failing. So we got an
alternator and changed that out, now it
wont start at all. It will turn over but not
start. We checked codes and it read the
crankshaft sensor so we replaced that.
Replaced the fuel pump, replaced the
spark plugs that were shot. What could it
be?!?! HELP!

Have you had the battery load tested?Low amperage from battery will mess with the ECM/computer,and give you the no crank issue like this.

Sounds like a wiring problem at the starter. Connections need to be corrosion free and clean and tight. Take a close look at the wiring to see if corrosion has gotten inside the insulation. Also as T_S_T suggested, have the battery tested.

Check the wire between the battery and the starter for corrosion on either end. if none then check that wire for resistance there should be a 0000 reading. if it reads any numbers at all besides 0000 replace this wire. Corrosion inside the wire will also cause these issues...
