What's wrong with my 1998 rav4 heating gauge and heat not coming through?

The temperature gauge needle is all the way up to the highest hot setting and the hot air
doesn't come through the vents, only the cold air from outside comes through. The gauge
is working because when I first start the car the needle shows the temp shows normal
temps but the longer I drive it gets hotter. I also put in a quart of oil to see if that would
help but it doesn't. Any suggestions?

dont drive it when the needle is that high. that means its overheating if it is reading correctly and you will damage the motor. dont worry about the oil worry about the coolant. the level is probably low and that is why no heat is coming out the vents. low coolant level will also make it overheat so you need to put coolant in it, find out why you are losing coolant, and fix it.
