SMT issue

Asked by batmom888 Apr 24, 2018 at 03:51 PM about the 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder 2 Dr STD Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Spyder. I started having an issue where it won't start every
time. It takes 2 or 3 tries. It doesn't make a noise when trying to start. (It's the
same sound as if you do not have your foot on the break or it is not in
neutral.) My SMT light comes on occasionally. I replaced the starter, starter
relay and brake switch. The mechanic put it on the machine and not getting
any codes. The car runs fine. They checked the transmission and battery
and said everything is ok and also checked the fluids. Can anyone help with
this issue.

Would the low battery voltage show when they checked the battery? The machine did not display any code. Would that show up as a code?

I have the same exact problem with a 2003. Any help? Could it be the Ignition Starter Switch??
