My 2003 toyota corolla wont go backwards( in reverse shift or neutral shift) After hitting a water puddle. Before i went over the puddle, it reversed all fine. What could the problem be?

May be tranny shift sylinoid ,got wet,try removing positive cable for a few minute,s may reset,remove key from car before doing this.
