replaced head, timing chain, gears, cam timing gear, crank sensor, car starts sounds good but dies

does it start and die right away? did you change anything like the computer or the ignition it sounds like a security or anti theft problem...
A 2000 Corolla needed all that work? I am flabbergasted that a 13 year old 1ZZ FE had to have that done...unless you do a LOT of traveling and have racked up 300,000 miles...or it got hot because of loss of coolant or some other defect that could have been prevented. The 1ZZ FE is a proven engine that will go 250,000 miles with no trouble at all provided it has had oil changes at proper intervals. Now, the timing chain, cam gears needing to be replaced indicates to me a lack of lubricant, i.e. oil changes. Crankshaft sensors can go bad at any time. But a head replacement? Warped? Something is wrong with this picture. Unless you have racked up 300k then I take it all back. Meantime get your OBD codes and we can eliminate a lot of guesswork.
