Open the hood, locate the transmission dipstick, take it out and see where the level sits. For a truly accurate read, leave the car for an hour on a level surface with the engine off, to allow the fluid to settle. It's really simple, like most older cars.
Dipstick should be on the right side of engine as you look at it. Should be a red colored handle. Car needs to be warmed up and running while you pull the stick to check the level. If car is off when checking the level, you will get a wrong reading. Pull stick, wipe clean, put back in while engine is on, pull back out and get reading. If low, add oil. If car has 60K or more miles on it, it would be a good idea to have it drained and refilled at a service station. Do not do a flush. Just have them drain oil, put in new filter and refill. Should be good for another 60K.
